The collection includes seven envelopes, variously addressed to Ann Pierce Howard, and one letter. The letter, dated July 22, 1879, is written on stationery of the "Columbus Agency of Southwestern Railroad Company of Georgia," is from her brother-in-law, H. M. Howard of Columbus, Georgia. The letter discusses family matters including the death of Mr. Howard's son. Also included in the collection are two pages (copies) of handwritten genealogical notes on Anne Pierce Howard.

The collection consists of three letters and one envelope from Mark A. Cooper (1800-1885) of Etowah, Georgia, to his sister Mrs. Emily Branham of Eatonton, Georgia. The letters, dated December 27, 1854, March 3, 1855, and July 18, 1855, discuss family matters, problems, and business transactions as Cooper seeks to straighten out some family difficulties. The envelope bears a fine embossment advertising Cooper's manufactory.
